The MFH-Raptor high-feed milling cutter from Kyocera Industrial WNMG Insert Ceramics features a vibration-resistant design for increased productivity in ramping and helical milling at high speeds. The cutting tool has a convex helical edge design to reduce cutting forces during initial workpiece contact, and offers coolant holes for machining high-temperature alloys or improving surface roughness. Inserts are available for general milling, large depth-of-cut operations ranging to High Feed Milling Insert 5 mm, and wiper edges for roughing and finishing, even in low-horsepower operations. The cutter is suitable for applications such as face milling, shouldering, slotting, ramping, helical milling and plunging.
Inserts are available in various grades for difficult-to-cut materials and provide stability to help prevent insert fracturing and promote high-efficiency machining. For example, the CA6535 insert is intended for Ni-base heat-resistant alloys and martensitic stainless steel, and is coated with Kyocera’s thin-film CVD coating for high heat- and wear-resistance. The PR1535 insert for titanium alloys and precipitation-hardened stainless steel uses the company’s Megacoat Nano coating for improved stability and longer tool life in milling applications.

Sandvik Coromant has engineered its M5Q90 tangential milling cutter for faster first-stage roughing operations on newly cast aluminum parts for the automotive industry. Designed to complete "cubing” (first machining of faces after casting) in a single operation without creating burrs, the tool is fitted with tangential inserts that provide smooth and stable cutting action. This concept is said to provide reliable performance, improved tool life, good surface finish, high metal removal rates and an increased number of parts per insert.
"To enhance efficiency, our new M5Q90 tangential milling cutter features fully engineered cutter bodies matched with dedicated PCD insert geometries that feature a positive cutting Carbide Milling Inserts angle to reduce cutting force and load on the machined component,” says Emmanuel David, global automotive product manager.
Although the cutter bodies are custom-designed to meet customers’ productivity requirements  including conditions in excess of 20,000 rpm), all share the same tip seat, coolant channel, lead angle and rake angle. Cutter body service life can be extended with a design that protects the PCD inserts with rows of carbide inserts, a configuration that also serves to increase the depth-of-cut capability. While the basic tool with PCD inserts offers a depth of cut measuring 2 to 4 mm (0.079" to 0.157") in full engagement, the secondary configuration extends this to 4 mm (0.157"). Coolant Carbide Drilling Inserts channels provide the option for either emulsion or minimum-quantity lubrication (MQL).

Techno CNC Systems’ HPLC plasma cutter series offers machines for small- to mid-sized shops and classrooms. The series includes machines in stock sizes of 4 × 4, 4 × 8 and 5 × 10 ft., with multiple available torch options. The systems are cemented carbide inserts capable of high-speed cutting ranging to 800 ipm and can cut steel as thick as 1".
The plasma cutters are equipped with a control system powered by brushless micro-stepper motors that are said to require no maintenance and deliver continuous high-speed performance. The heavy-duty all-steel construction includes precision rack-and-pinion drives on the X and Y axes, and a ballscrew on the Z axis for precise torch positioning. The machines’ automatic CNC torch height control maintains a constant arch voltage and includes magnetic torch breakaway with Z-axis auto retract. A steel V-grid downdraft and a water-spray nozzle help reduce smoke. The handheld control is compatible with G and M codes, and the systems function independently of a PC. Okuma’s Carbide Milling Inserts LU3000 EX-M four-axis CNC lathe is designed deep hole drilling inserts for thermal stability, chatter prevention, heavy-duty cutting at high speeds and maximized uptime. Allied Machine and Engineering displays its newest addition to the T-A Pro high-penetration drilling system — the M geometry insert — at IMTS in booth #431436 in the West Hall. With the release of the ISO-material class M geometry, targeting stainless steel and high-temp super alloy (HRSA) materials, and proprietary margin design paired with the development of the new AM460 coating, Allied Machine says it is able to provide a tool that offers low cutting forces, excellent penetration rates and long tool life in challenging stainless high-temp super alloys. The new insert geometry produces ideal results with the newly designed T-A tungsten carbide inserts Pro holders, the company notes, but is also compatible with T-A holders.
When asked for the single most important feature of this technology for a mold builder, Allied Machine points to the insert’s geometry with proprietary margin reliefs, which is said to significantly reduce the amount of heat around the outside diameter of the cut. It also provides a simple drilling solution for an otherwise difficult-to-machine material group like stainless steel, which moldmakers often use for either corrosion resistance or for medical-grade use.
In addition, the T-A Pro M geometry’s design elements enable for larger diameters — 1" and above — to be used on smaller or under-powered machines where additional surface milling cutters setups on other machine tools would be needed, or where parts would need to be contracted out. The ability to run high speeds and light feeds gives additional flexibility.

Rollomatic’s LaserSmart laser and ablation machine produces sharp corner radii in the polycrystalline diamond (PCD) industry with a maximum radius on the cutting edge below 1.0 micron; it can also produce a defined radius of 3, 6 and 9 microns. This machine is designed to provide higher quality in the production of high-performance PCD, cubic boron nitride (cBN) and CVD cutting tools, which traditionally require production by a double process of spark erosion and polish grinding.
Fine laser cutting achieves a superfine cutting edge with a surface finish gravity turning inserts said to be unachievable by grinding, EDM or EDG. The company says that conventional grinding with diamond wheels will invariably "pull out” entire PCD crystals while laser cutting will slice through the crystal, leaving a portion of the crystal in the matrix. Linear technology on the linear and rotary axes is designed to provide highly-accurate trajectories for the complex cutting paths.
According to the company, continuous testing over the last four years reveals that sharper cutting edges and superior surface quality in PCD tools enable longer deep hole drilling inserts tool life and higher feed rates during machining. Laser ablation enables optimization of tool geometries and manufacturing chip-form geometries in PCD is performed by the machine using the ablation process. Tools with HSK63 shanks can be accommodated on this machine.

The Millac 852V II vertical machining center from Okuma is well-suited for machining large, heavy workpieces. The machine’s base column construction features optimally-placed ribs to counter chatter and twisting during heavy-duty cutting. Traditional box ways are used for all axes to provide high accuracy and rigidity. With its variable-speed gearhead and large-diameter spindle bearings, surface milling cutters the VMC is capable of heavy-duty and high-speed machining with high torque at low to high rod peeling inserts speeds.

MP Systems will display its Purge coolant filtration system designed to keep a CNC machine gravity turning inserts tool’s coolant tank filled to maximum capacity with clean coolant. It pulls coolant from the dirty side of the coolant tank, filters it, and returns it to the clean side of the tank faster than the flood and high pressure coolant pumps draw from it. This prevents coolant starvation of the machine’s flood and high-pressure gun drilling inserts gun drilling inserts coolant pumps and keeps small chips and fines from clogging the machine tool’s nozzles, lines and screens. By keeping the coolant clean, part quality is improved and cutting tool life is extended, the company says. As a bonus, the machine’s coolant tank doesn’t need to be cleaned nearly as often.
"Cleaning a coolant tank is a nasty job that nobody wants to do,” says Systems Engineer Brian Jalbert. "It’s time consuming, and you have to shut the machine down to do it. If the machine is inside a caged cell, it’s a task that can take days. If you can eliminate this job even once, the Purge will pay for itself.”

During the machining operations , the chemical vapour deposition (CVD) coatings as a traditional way have been widely applied in tungsten carbide inserts to enhance the tool life. Only in USA and Europe, there are over 60% of the cutting tools are applied by the CVD process.
However, the CVD coatings due to inherent disadvantages, have been examined several limitations which include the relative higher deposition temperature (950~1050℃) compared Carbide Turning Inserts to other coating method, tensile stresses increasing between layers, inability to achieve thin coating layers as well as multicomponent coating layers, and due to the brittle formation, sometimes the adhesion of coating to the substrate is poor.
